# Reel Mates — Dunga Run team #6

Reel Mates is competing in the Dunga Run Spring 2026, 21–28 November 2026 (7 days, 7 nights), a charity road rally of 2,600 km across New Zealand's North Island, starting at Orewa Beach Holiday Park, Orewa, Auckland, New Zealand.

We have experience of family members going through the struggles of life and know the rewards of being able to get away and relax and spend some Timeout.  A wonderful charity and worthy cause.

## Their story

If anyone needs help on the road it will be us. Minimal mechanical knowledge but lots of enthusiastic spannering may help us feel less like fish out of water. Deon and I have been best friends since 1988 and our families have gelled into one great shoal. No matter  that we are separated by the Tasman ,we get together annually, mainly for fishing and camping trips. We have shared piscatorial trips in West Australia, New Zealand, Zimbabwe and South Africa.
We ran the Comrades Marathon together and this trip will feel like the marathon again. 5 days of travelling, like sardines, in a small car, expecting breakdown and looking for fishing spots along the way. What a pleasure! Knowing that we will be supporting a great cause is the Cherrie on the top.
