Dunga Run — cheap cars, epic roads, big hearts

Dunga Run key facts

The Dunga Run is a New Zealand charity road rally run by the TimeOut Charitable Trust. Teams buy a cheap car (a "dunga") for $2,000 or less and drive 2,600km of remote North Island roads.

  • Dates: 21–28 November 2026 (7 days, 7 nights).
  • Start: Orewa Beach Holiday Park, Orewa, Auckland. Finish: Turners Cars, Otahuhu, Auckland.
  • Entry: apply as a team of two, buy a road-legal dunga for $2,000 or less, pay the team registration fee, budget about $195 per team per day for camping and meals, carry a radio telephone and fundraise for TimeOut. 20 team places.
  • Donate: donate to the event or to a team from the team directory; businesses can sponsor a team.
  • TimeOut Charitable Trust: a New Zealand charity giving families living with incurable illness free holiday-home breaks.

  • Dunga Doers — driving for We’re the support crew behind the Dunga Run, making sure everything keeps rolling! Ronda founded TimeOut Charitable Trust, David is her husband and has supported her and TimeOut behind the scenes for years, and Roimata is a founding TimeOut board member. Between us, we’ll be looking after registration, check ins, camp logistics, cooking, catering and welcoming everyone in at the end of each leg. We’re all volunteering because we love Dunga Run, believe it’s a fantastic fit for TimeOut and want to help make it a success. We’re looking forward to the adventure, meeting an awesome bunch of people, having plenty of laughs and, most importantly, making a real difference for TimeOut and the families we support. We can’t wait to Dunga with you!

  • Dunga Dynasty — driving for After his Mum was diagnosed with terminal cancer, Hunter and his family had the opportunity to spend time away together thanks to the generosity of a family friend. That experience led to his Mum founding TimeOut Charity
